At our Auction 14 – The Gdańsk schilling1670 of Michał Korybut Wiśniowiecki

Published by RDA on

Our September auction, as well as all our previous ones, are for everyone. It has become customary to present only the rarest, best preserved and most expensive items. However, this Gdańsk schilling 1670 of Michał Korybut Wiśniowiecki breaks the stereotype that numismatics is only for the chosen ones. A tiny and inexpensive coin, but contrary to appearances, it is desired and sought after by collectors. Schilling 1670 (Gdańsk, Elbląg or Toruń) is in fact the only denomination available at a price for an average collector. In the short period of this ruler’s reign, only schillings were minted for small coins. All other issues are a thick silver coins (half-thaler and thaler) and gold (ducat and two-ducat).

The presented shilling is beautiful, for this type, a piece with a charming patina, with a piercing gloss. Delicate sheet metal defects on the reverse, typical of this issue. A rarer type of coin with a large crown.

We encourage you to familiarize yourself with the entire offer of our upcoming auction to see that our offer is addressed to all lovers, enthusiasts and collectors of coins and banknotes.
