At our Auction 14 – Bydgoszcz thaler 1629 in an extremely rare variety with an error in the king’s name, SISGIS instead of SIGIS

Thalers awaken the imagination of many collectors. They delight with their majesty, beauty and size. Here is a beautiful representative of this denomination from our upcoming auction. Bydgoszcz thaler 1629 in an extremely rare variety with an error in the king’s name, SISGIS instead of SIGIS. In this variety, the coin is absent from Czapski’s collection and not recorded in the monograph of the Bydgoszcz mint of M. Gumowski. We have only reached 5 pieces in domestic numismatic auctions over the last 20 years.

In the Bulletin (7-12/1988) Janusz Kurpiewski describes this variety as follows: “A very significant error, considering that it appears on the obverse of the thickest, representative silver coin and, moreover, in the royal name…”

Importantly, in our opinion this is the most beautiful piece of this variety that has appeared at auctions. Beautiful mint, vivid shine. For the best collections – we definitely recommend it.
